Our Champion Marcos Baghdatis exhibited one of his best performances so far on Australian ground, crashing out from the quarters, No. 4 seed, Australia's favourite, Lleytton Hewitt, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.
Our Champion, looking very solid and confident throughout the match is now in the semis of the Medibank International in Australia.
Baghdatis, who once more started a match being down 1-3 and facing a break, came back saving two set points at 4-5 of the first set, however, did not manage to gain the break point and bring the games to 5-5, losing the first set 6-4. From then and on, it was the Cypriot warrior who took control of the game, playing with superb speed from the baseline, high percentages on his first serve (76% of 1st serves won) and putting heavy pressure on his opponent by attacking the net.
With two early breaks at the beginning of both sets and with Baghdatis having full control of the game, Hewitt proved unable to handle the fierce pressure of our Champion, who won the next two sets fairly easily 6-2, 6-3 and the ticket to the semis of the event, forcing the Greek crowd to start the celebrations on court!
