The pre-draw Davis Cup press conference was held today at the Spyros Kyprianou Stadium in Limassol. In addressing both teams, as well as the various representatives of the media, Mr. Philios Christodoulou, President of the Cyprus Tennis Federation, has welcomed everybody for the first time in Davis Cup history in Limassol, giving details of the whole event regarding this year´s important tie against Egypt, taking place in Cyprus from the 5th till the 7th of March 2010.
As Mr. Christodoulou pointed out, these matches will be characterised by the fair play which will be conducted by both teams during the matches, in order for all tennis fans coming at the Spyros Kyprianou stadium, to enjoy a spectacular weekend of elite indoor tennis in Cyprus.
The Cyprus Tennis Federation has also made special arrangements for a TV live coverage of all the tennis matches by CYTAVISION, during the three day event, as well as a live streaming on the internet, both locally and internationally. Mr. Christodoulou, has thanked all the sponsors, especially Cytanet (Team Sponsor), Agros Water, KLIK FM, OPAP Cyprus, Aphrodite Hills Resort (Domestic Sponsors), Babolat Tennis balls, and everybody who has contributed in making this event possible.
Mr. Yiannos Hadjigeorghiou, Captain of the Cyprus Tennis Team, pointed out the toughness of this tie against Egypt, which is considered a very strong opponent. In the meantime, Yiannos stressed out the fact that our team is currently in very good form, expecting that it will perform at its best and gain the tie this weekend. The captain also noted that each match is important, the surface is quite slow making each match quite difficult and that special consideration must be given to the doubles match on Saturday.
Our Champion Marcos Baghdatis being very keen of the hosting of the event in Limassol, looked very confident and ready for the matches. Marcos talked about a lot of important emotions during this tie, playing in front of his home crowd, however, stressed out the fact that saving energy in every match will be very important, also playing good tennis and keeping things simple by winning straight forward matches, will be the criteria to success. Ending up, our Champion invited all Cyprus tennis fans to attend the matches, support our team and enjoy a spectacular event, starting on Friday.
