History

The Paralimni Tennis Club was created in 1989, an important step towards the development of tennis in the Famagusta region and sports in general. It was set up on the initiative of three people – Nikos Michaelides (President), Eleftherios Triaros (Vice President) and Vasili Giorgalla (General Secretary).

The various President’s of the Club since its creation are as follows:
Nicos Michaelides (1989-1991)
Georgos Karas (1991-2001)
Eleftherios Triaros (2001-2006)

In addition to its adult members, the club has about 100 children aged 6-18 enrolled in the club’s tennis academy, some of whom have had successes both regionally and nationally. The Paralimni Tennis Club is one of the six full members of the Cyprus Tennis Federation, with the club’s President actively participating in Federation meetings.

The Paralimni Tennis Club is situated at the Paralimni Municipality’s Sports Centre, next to the ‘Tasos Markou’ football field. It was built with the financial aid of the Paralimni Municipality, the Cyprus Sports Organisation and the Paralimni Tennis Club, which is also officially responsible for its management.

Facilities consist of four artificial grass tennis courts and a club house with restaurant for members. The first two courts were built in 1994-95, and the last two were built between 1998-99 under the preiidency of Giorgos Karas. Continuous additions and improvements have been taking place since, the most recent being the restaurant and a beautiful grass play area surrounded by a wooden fence for children aged 2-6.

The club’s tennis academy has in recent years received a boost with an increase in the number of junior players rising from 25-30 to between 80-100. The training programme of the various groups was upgraded with the help of the Club’s two coaches.

The Paralimni Tennis Club’s courts can be used by members in the following order of priority:
a) the club’s academy and the competition teams
b) club members
c) non members in accordance with the rules and regulations of the club
A booking system both for members and non members is in force for the use of the courts.

Junior players aged between 6-18 are put into groups (boys and girls) according to age and ability from beginners, to intermediate and advanced.

Adult groups also exist and are created as per demand. The Club has two talented coaches.

Junior players are encouraged to take part in various club tournaments, while the more promising players take part in tournaments organised by the Cyprus Tennis Federation. The Paralimni Tennis Club each year holds a Pancyprian Junior Tournament at the club premises.
